Operator care routines: clean, inspect, lubricate and tag
Operators are the first to notice when a machine starts to change. This course covers operator care (the 'autonomous maintenance' idea in TPM): cleaning as inspection, following a care standard, reading visual controls, using the right lubricant in the right amount, and tagging and reporting abnormalities so they get fixed. HSE's PUWER guidance is used as the UK example for inspection and defect reporting. Your site's care standards and procedures govern; machines and records here are fictional.

- Follow a care standard: what to check, how, with what, the OK condition and how often
- Read visual controls (gauge bands, sight-glass lines, match marks, lubricant labels) and recognize an abnormal condition
- Choose the correct lubricant and amount from the care standard and refuse a substitute
- Tag, record and report an abnormality, and decide whether it is an operator fix or a maintenance job
