Personal data from collection to deletion: notices, vendors, retention and impact assessments

Follow personal data through its life at work: know what you hold, collect only what you need and tell people why at the time, recognize when a supplier is a processor that needs a proper contract, spot projects that may need a data protection impact assessment (DPIA), keep data no longer than your retention schedule says, dispose of it so it can't be read, and plan for incidents. Uses the US FTC's five principles (take stock, scale down, lock it, pitch it, plan ahead) and UK ICO guidance as examples; your privacy team and local law govern.
