Tool control, calibration records and out-of-tolerance findings
Keep track of shared and special tools so none are lost or left inside equipment, read calibration labels and certificates before trusting a measurement, and respond properly when an instrument is found out of tolerance. Instruments, certificates and jobs are fictional; your organization sets calibration intervals and the manufacturer sets torque values.

Skills you'll practise
- Record the checkout and return of shared and special tools and count tools before closing up equipment
- Report a lost, damaged or dropped tool or instrument straight away and take it out of use
- Read a calibration label and certificate: instrument ID, due date, as-found and as-left results, traceability and accreditation
- Decide from its calibration status and condition whether an instrument may be used on a given job
- Respond to an out-of-tolerance finding: quarantine, report, and identify the jobs measured since the last good calibration
- Take torque and other critical values from the manufacturer's documentation, not memory
