Installation and commissioning: from delivery check to handover
Install equipment so it works safely from day one: check the site and the delivery before you start, install to the manufacturer's instructions, commission with every test recorded, stop and investigate when a test fails, and hand over with the settings, records and a demonstration. Regulated work stays with qualified people. Equipment, sites and values are fictional; the manufacturer's instructions and your procedures govern.

Skills you'll practise
- Check a site survey against the manufacturer's installation requirements and stop to resolve any requirement that isn't met
- Check a delivery against the packing list, and record shortages and transit damage before signing
- Install to the manufacturer's instructions, and leave gas, electrical supply and refrigerant work to people qualified for it
- Carry out commissioning checks in order and record each result and the as-commissioned settings
- Stop, investigate and re-test when a commissioning test fails, and never hand over on a failed test
- Prepare a handover pack and records so the customer and the next technician know how the equipment was left
