UniFi: adoption, hosting, updates, backups and remote management

Run UniFi deployments the way Ubiquiti documents them: where the UniFi Network application runs, adopting devices on the same network and across layer 3 (inform URL, DHCP Option 43, DNS), factory resets and "Managed by Other", system and Network-only backups and migration, update channels and the Update Manager, and Site Manager remote access with the right admin roles.

Skills you'll practise

  • Identify where the UniFi Network application is hosted at a site and what happens to devices if a self-hosted server goes offline
  • Adopt a device on the same VLAN and across layer 3, and check TCP 8080 reachability when adoption fails
  • Choose between Forget, the physical reset button and backup-based migration when moving devices between consoles
  • Configure and verify automatic cloud backups and take an offline backup before a change
  • Explain release channels, auto-updates and where updates are managed across sites
  • Assign Site Manager admin roles with least privilege and explain why Super Admin is treated like Owner
