Retail refunds, exchanges and fraud signals: statutory rights, goodwill policy and safe responses
For retail sales associates, cashiers, customer service advisers and new supervisors who handle returns at the counter or by phone. No prerequisites. 'Returns and refunds in practice' and 'Spotting payment fraud in billing contacts' are useful follow-ons. Jurisdictions: UK consumer rights for goods (Consumer Rights Act 2015 and distance-selling rules, as explained by GOV.UK and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute's Business Companion), and US Federal Trade Commission guidance on mail, internet and phone order refunds and on scams seen at the till. Other countries, and US state laws, have their own rules. Your company's policy sets goodwill terms and who can approve what. This is workplace training, not legal advice, and it doesn't grant any licence or qualification.
