Professional services: engagement letters, scope and handling scope creep
For accounts seniors, trainee solicitors, paralegals, junior consultants and managers in professional services firms who draft engagement or client care letters or deal with client requests during a job. Complete 'Professional services: honest time recording and billing' first: it covers explaining the basis of fees and handling estimate overruns. This course goes further on the engagement itself: what an engagement or client care letter needs to cover, how to write scope, exclusions and client responsibilities so a client can act on them, how to recognise scope creep, and how to price and agree a change before the work starts. Jurisdiction: UK examples from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA, solicitors in England and Wales) and ICAEW (chartered accountants), including consumer cancellation rights described in ICAEW guidance. Other professions and countries have their own rules; your firm's templates and your professional body decide the detail. This course is not legal advice; ICAEW notes engagement letters may need legal advice, and it doesn't grant a professional qualification.
