Reading GA4 reports correctly: engagement, users, scopes and data quality
For marketing coordinators, marketing analysts, content and e-commerce staff and managers who read Google Analytics 4 reports and make decisions from them. Complete 'Marketing analytics basics' first (funnels, rates and fair comparisons). 'Campaign planning and measurement' is a useful companion: it covers planning, UTM tagging and channel grouping, while this course is about reading what GA4 then shows. You'll learn how GA4 defines engaged sessions and its user metrics, why first-user, session and event scopes give different answers, which warnings (thresholding, sampling, the (other) row, (not set), data freshness) change what a number means, and how to write a finding that someone else can trust. Definitions follow Google's Analytics Help pages as they were when this course was written; check them for changes. Your organization's analytics owner decides key events, consent settings and the attribution model.

Skills you'll practise
- Calculate engagement rate, bounce rate and session key event rate from GA4's definitions and interpret them
- Distinguish total, active, new and returning users, and explain why user counts don't add up across report rows
- Choose the right scope (first user, session or event) for a traffic-source question and explain why reports with different scopes disagree
- Identify data-quality signals (thresholding, sampling, the (other) row, (not set) and data freshness) and state what each means for a report
- Write a report finding that states the date range, comparison, scope, attribution model and data caveats
